Connect Compact to Compact

Create a fixed, dual‑screen checkout: one merchant‑facing Clover Compact and one customer‑facing Clover Compact linked by Clover Compact tether cable, for faster checkout speeds and optimized workflows.

Before you start

  • Placement: Keep the merchant Compact within easy reach of staff; position the customer Compact where guests can comfortably review, tip, and sign.

  • Cable required: Compact Tether Cable (device‑to‑device USB tether).

  • Power & network: Both devices powered on and connected to your Clover network (Ethernet/Wi‑Fi/LTE as applicable).

Step 1 — Physically connect the Compacts

  1. On the merchant Compact, plug the Compact Tether Cable into the USB host/hub port.

  2. On the customer Compact, plug the other end into the USB device/hub port (follow the port labels on each base).

  3. Route and secure the cable so guests can’t snag or disconnect it.

Tip: This dual‑Compact configuration replaces the need for swivel stands.

Step 2 — Confirm customer‑facing mode

  • The customer Compact should automatically present a welcome screen and then follow the payment flow (tips, receipt selection) during checkout.

  • If it does not switch automatically, reboot both devices. After restart, the guest Compact should enter customer‑facing mode.

Example: dry cleaning shop

  • Merchant Clover Compact near the cashier with the customer Clover Compact facing the customer for fast and easy payment, with tap to pay, Apple Pay, and more.

Troubleshooting quick checks

  • Compact Tether Cable is fully seated on both hubs (host ↔ device).

  • Both Compacts are powered and on the latest Clover OS.

  • Devices are connected to your store network for normal operations (printing, online orders, reporting).

  • If the guest screen stays blank, disconnect and reconnect the tether, then reboot both units.
