Star Micronics TSP143III — Quick Setup for Clover
Use this guide to add a Star TSP143III as an order or receipt printer on Clover.
What’s in the box

You’ll need
Internet modem + router (DHCP enabled)
Nearby power outlet
Clover device on the same network (Ethernet or Wi‑Fi)
80 mm (3 1/8") thermal paper rolls
Compatibility
Works with Clover Duo/Solo and Mini over Ethernet/Wi‑Fi.
Flex and Mobile send print jobs over Wi‑Fi only.
Order printing is available on Clover Retail/Services Growth and Restaurant Growth plans.
1) Wire it up
Plug the Ethernet cable from the printer to a router LAN port.
Connect power to the printer and switch it ON (left side).
2) Load paper
With the printer off, open the paper lid.
Drop in an 80 mm thermal roll with the paper feeding from the bottom toward the front.
Pull out ~1" of paper and close the lid.
3) Add the printer in Clover
On your Clover device:
Open the Printers app → tap Add (lower right).
Choose Order Printer. Clover lists any printers it sees on your network.
Select the Star TSP143III by name to bring it online.
(Optional) Repeat to add additional printers.
To temporarily stop printing orders, take the printer offline using the printer’s power switch.
4) Choose what prints (Order & label settings)
On your Clover device:
Open the Setup app → Order Receipts & Sticky Labels.
How orders print in Register:
Manual: Cashier taps the printer icon to print.
Automatic: Send All items, Only items with printer labels, or Manually print items with no labels.
When to print (Auto):
When Pay or Save is tapped
When Pay is tapped
When Save is tapped
When customer receipts are printed
Reprinting controls: Require manager passcode for label reprints (recommended).
Order numbers: None, Manual, or Automatic (set a max, e.g., 99, then reset at open).
Appearance options: Large font, header spacing, order notes, alternate item names, group line items, show modifier group names, condense modifiers, include customer info.
Routing to specific printers
To send certain items to specific printers (e.g., expo vs. grill), assign custom printer labels to items, then choose Only items with printer labels in settings.
5) Use cases
Order printer at the counter or kitchen (tickets with items, modifiers, notes).
Receipt printer for payments if needed.
Quick checks (if the printer doesn’t appear)
Confirm the Star printer and Clover device are on the same router/network.
Verify Ethernet is fully seated and the router’s LAN port is active.
Power‑cycle the printer and router, then refresh the Clover Printers app.
Ensure your Clover plan includes Order Printing features.
